Air New Zealand, “An Unexpected Briefing”

Introduced in anticipation of the firstHobbit movie in 2012, this fan-favorite safety video by WETA Workshop and the “Airline of Middle-earth” offers a silly dose of fantasy and fun at 30,000 feet.

Everyone here is fully outfitted with the ears and costumes of the Lord of the Rings franchise, right on down to the hairy feet. In a word: “Precious….”

Entertaining Airline Safety Video | Volaris

Prepare for takeoff with the world’s silliest, sexiest, and tongue-in-cheekiest airline safety videos.

Volaris, a Mexican low-cost airline, unveiled its telenovela-style video featuring local celebrity actress Claudia Lizaldi back in 2010. That a budget carrier even forked over the money to produce this is a bit shocking, but Volaris’s investment paid off as you’d be hard-pressed to find a more hilarious safety presentation.

The video’s dramatic theme starts up when Lizaldi falls in love (lust) with a handsome passenger, who ends up sitting next to her, a realization that leaves her breathless. Naturally, that’s the perfect time to talk about oxygen masks. Genius.

Thomson Airways – Perhaps the only time you’ll ever want to see a bunch of children take over the plane is when well-behaved English ones adorably tell you how to operate a seat belt in this too-cute safety video from 2009.

Released in conjunction with the 50th-anniversary Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, the latest cheeky video from Air New Zealand amps up the sexy for safety’s sake—bikini models, shirtless Maori men, and even a cute baby to get moms all aflutter—all to the hit Capital Cities track “Safe and Sound.” Led by John Legend paramour Chrissy Teigen along with Christie Brinkley and friends, the video offers up everything you might expect when you let swimsuit models run around a Cook Islands paradise. Whether anyone remembers anything they’ve been told about airplane safety is another thing entirely.

Entertaining Airline Safety Video | Virgin Atlantic “Trip”

Prepare for takeoff with the world’s silliest, sexiest, and tongue-in-cheekiest airline safety videos.

You’d think six minutes might be too long for an in-flight safety video, but spotting all the film references in this just-released action-packed animated delight is a lot of fun. We counted classic Batman, old westerns, Busby Berkeley dance-a-thons, and Orient Express–type film noir—and that’s just on the first viewing. Apropos to Virgin Atlantic’s British HQ, the psychedelic Bond segment.
