The six competing boats will be docked at the Volvo Ocean Race Downtown Miami Festival for the public to get a closer look. This is the most competitive fleet ever to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race and the 2011-12 edition will be the world’s toughest and longest ocean race. Amongst the 11 crew members on board each of the six Volvo Open 70s are the world’s best sailors including Olympic gold medallists, world champions and America’s Cup winners.
The Volvo Ocean Race is an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavour which has been built on the spirit of great seafarers – fearless men who sailed the world’s oceans aboard square rigged clipper ships more than a century ago. As such we at the Continental Travel Group wish safe passage and luck to Groupama sailing team – Skipper: Franck Cammas | Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing – Skipper: Ian Walker | PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG – Skipper: Ken Read | CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand – Skipper: Chris Nicholson | Team Telefónica – Skipper: Iker Martinez and Team Sanya – Skipper: Mike Sanderson.
